This week in the class we talk about Patriarchy. Then we watch a movie called "Fire" by Deepa Mehta which was focused on a male dominant house. after watching the movie i did some research on Deepa Mehta and came across another movie by her called "Water" came out in 2006. This movie is a perfect example of the Partriarchy.
Water also took place in India during 1940s. Movie is focused on the lives of widows in this time period who were forced into poverty at a temple. In this male dominated society women were not alowed to get remarried and not only that they were also forced to live with other widows at a temple away from their home. This movie also focused on how young windows were forced towards prostituiton by the older widows. In my opinion this movie is an great example of the male dominated society where males are not only dominating a single household but the whole society and pushing women who are widow into a life of misery and suffering.
This is also an excellent film!
