Whatever we read in this book about the culture in islam, is something that started islam when Mohammad became the prophet. Now in this modern age, they are using this olden time islamic preachings as Jihad, basically saying that if you die in the name of religion you would be awarded with, i think its 72, virgins in heaven, which is not taught in modern day islam, which was written by the last prophet.
So if we notice and even if there are studies which can prove it, that senior islamic citizens would never agree to the writings in the modern day kuran, which is why young teenagers were or are still being brainwashed into terrorism with confusing them with old and modern day kuran.
Similarly in the book, her life is in the transition of the whole culture to change which was understood by her parents, which is why she was sent to Europe. Now coming to the discussion we had in class as to is it hypocritical of her to write such things when she is not even living there. Well firstly there are thousands of writers who live someplace else but write about the mishaps or wrong which is happening in other nations, eg. salman rushdie, born in bombay but raised in London, UK. Secondly, i believe she did a great job in enlightening the youth about iran, in fact not only that nation but our whole perception of islam nations as a whole is affected.
Then about why she wrote in a comic way, firstly i think because it lightens up the mood of the reader, as this being a very heavy book if was in a novel form. then i even think that later years to come this comic could certainly be used in schools for for children to understand the islamic culture, which would again prevent the whole stereotypical ideas, which we get when we see an arab dressed in a gown, with long beard.
