Persepolis part two

I thought the second half of the Perspolis was very different from the first half. Her child's perspective changed to a teenager and to an adult. I felt like Marjane did not fit in very well in Austria. She tried to remember where she was from and to be true to herself, but it did not work out well because she was trying to fit in as the Austrian culture. She was struggling so much to find who she really is that she gave in to bad influences making her feel more depressed and ashamed. She definitely learns a lot in Austria and her views on certain things changed, such as sexuality and marriage. When she returned to Iran, she didn't fit in again because she was so westernized. However I felt that she had gained much more confident about her opinions after she was back.

In the first half, she was building on her identity, when suddenly is lost moving to Vienna. She consistently tries to look for her identity by trying several different things, and following grandma's advice of being true to herself. Although she fails many times and falls in depression, I thought the real moment where she finally was being true to herself was when she was leaving again for the second time after a divorce. I think she really found who she was after living in both countries and expanding her mind with different perspective.
