Persepolis
Reading the novel really suprised me. before i started reading it i would have never had any other imae of Iran than that of the fundamentalists. but what suprised me the most was how much i could actually relate to the characters, i very much had the same attitude as Marjane did in the first half of the book. i myself have gotten in trouble durring middle and elementary school because i questioned how the teacher did things. i was suprissed also at the family, they seemed so modern and not what i would imaging an iranian family of the 1980s. her parents personalities are also very similar to my own, and as i myself am an only child i really ot into her story. what she had to go through at souch a young age, i could never imagine having the courage to do so. also the fact that she was able to leave her parents at 14, and survive, i would have gone crazy. when i read things like this it really makes me thankful for what i have.
