Persepolis Film

After watching the film version of Persepolis, I thought there was a huge difference between the movie and the graphic novel. The reason for me to think this was is because many details were missing in the film that were essential to Satrapi's message. One of them were when she cuts her hair short to make herself look punk. I thought this scene was important in the novel version because she was going so far on herself to fit in when she should have been always herself. She says "The harder I tried to assimilate, the more i had the feeling that i was distancing myself from my culture, betraying my parents and my origins." on page 193 and I think the film version didn't show much of this.

Also I thought the film didn't give much explanation on developing the characters and on her relationships and marriage, when it was actually big part of her life. I would not have understood these scenes in the movie if I hadn't read the novel. The only well developed characters other than Marjane was the Grandma, the movie made it seem that her grandmother was very close to her and was a significant person in her life. Even at the very last ending scene, the child voice of Marji asks grandma why she smells so good. and the relationship between few boyfriends and marriage relationship were missing a lot of details. I thought the movie and the book both had different feels and I interpreted each differently.
