I do not like statistical data. This article opens up with only 1/5 people report knowing a gay person, then it goes on to say that in 1948....hello 1948, 37% of men had homosexual orgasms. Where were those 5000 people from and it is now 2010. I think quite a few things have changed since then. For one since it's a little more accepted, the numbers probably went up. And two, I don't think 5000 people are representative of the US population.
I do think he has it right when he says that there is a certain stigma associated with being gay. If these numbers are correct then many more people are gay than society thinks. Not every gay man is a flaming homosexual and not every lesbian is a butch. I think the same set of standards can be applied to straight people too, the typical girl is pretty and the typical male we picture is muscular. I don't just think gay people have it hard, straight people have it hard too (i mean obviously gay people do have a harder time). There is so much pressure for young kids growing up today, there is so much pressure to look good, to be skinny, to have cool clothes. I feel bad for when I have children and they have to grow up in this world of pressure, because no matter who you are, you're gonna have to face obstacles.
