Film: Persepolis

Personally, I did not receive the film version of Persepolis very well. It didn't have as big an impact on me as the book did and there are several reasons why. First, I think that it was a mistake to leave out sections of the novel and to eliminate any explanation of what was happening in the film. The film was too similar to the book for Satrapi to be able to justify taking events/text out and not explaining things clearly. The film wasn't pieced together as well as the novel was and it was more interesting to read the novel than it was to watch the film version.
I'm wondering why the film was made as a cartoon? Was it because Satrapi was doing the artwork and wanted to do the film version in the same manner? It would be interesting to see how that decision was made. I think it might have been more interesting to do the film with real people instead of animation because it would have been different from the novel. Maybe Satrapi could have done more with it.
