La Hanie

I personally enjoyed this movie. In La Hanie we are able to see various racial aspects in France during the racial riots. The group of friends that it focuses on was very diverse. This subsequently resulted in a dynamic where each was able to bring a different outlook into their glum situation. There was something that I personally found interesting that we briefly went over in class. Vinz was a white Jew. This to me broke various stereotypes and put in a different outlook on the situation that they were all in. Instead of it being a minorities versus white battle it was a slum versus the upper class, a battle that is being increasingly common in the US.

I feel that because Vinz was white, he felt the need to continuously prove himself, hence the gun and the aggressive nature. Regardless, we see that there is a broken stereotype in the Jewish community. Instead of having money and being on the upper tier of society Vinz was dirt poor. He lived in a bad area and had a struggle. This linked with the fact that he was white allowed me to view the movie differently. I am aware that it was a movie about race wars, but I think that the more important battle was between the policy and the lower end of society. There may have been more minorities in the lower class, but Vinz was also a apart, him being white for me showed less of a racial issue and more of a class issue towards the end of the film.
