English Only

The U.S. working population consists of all sorts of races and nationalities, so naturally people of the same culture are drawn to expressing themselves. This is just a form of identifying with your ethnicity which most people are drawn to and is completely normal. But there is also a certain code of ethics that has to be accounted for when in the work place. English is the language that is native to the U.S. and this is how people expect to be interacted with in the proffesional world. Some may say that people who are against other languages in the work place are just insecure of themselves, and while this may be true those insecurities usually go to the disadvantage of the work place. So unless the circumstance permits and I agree there is many, people should take others into consideration. If not for sake politness then, then for the work place.

  1. As you point out, it seems as though when it comes to debates surrounding "English only" policies it is key to consider the context in which these policies are implemented.
