sexuality

If the child was lacking a male, figure in the home, he would most likely be homosexual. Jonathan Katz focused on same sex attraction and changes in the socially constructed sexuality over time. In the passage, ‘The invention of Heterosexuality’, I found it interesting that he reviewed on history of heterosexuality in American history, placed the normative category of heterosexuality in the form of the abnormal. I agree with an idea of not only a gender role but also the sexuality is socially constructed matter, in sense that while individuals do have a different taste in their sexual choices, others are judging them based on the myths and socially constructed expectation (heterosexuality is a norm).

Gender role was not the only issue that shown in the movie, 'Ma vie en Rose'. Go along with the terms of homo and heterosexuality, an idea of homophobia also created a trouble of Luduvic, making a new relation with others. Jérôme, Luduvic’s friend is giving us a good example of homophobia. Homophobia is not only describes a person who hates gay people, but rather it describes a person who are insecure of his own sexuality, so he hates ones who are able to express their feelings. I think Jérôme was confused about his identity (whether he is homosexual or heterosexual), and had a fear of being homosexual because he did not want to bring down the expectation of his family.

  1. "If the child was lacking a male, figure in the home, he would most likely be homosexual."

I found it odd that you chose to begin your post with this statement? Is this true? Did any of the authors who wrote on issues of sexuality make this argument? Does this support the incorrect stereotype that gay men cannot be traditionally masculine? Other than this, I think you do a good job of discussing issues of sexuality within the film, showing that Ludo's parents are concerned with his behavior not solely due to issues of gender but also due to sexuality.
